Social Work
About the Department
The Department of Social Work was started in the year 2022. Social work education is an initiative to restore many students’ families by bringing dream education to reality. A career in social work is all about giving and helping others in need from various NGOs to social development.
Master of Social Work course provides comprehensive knowledge about the work put into the development of service and fulfill human needs of the vulnerable and marginalized sections of the society and social welfare. The department has been providing training and practical oriented curriculum to the students through Organizing webinars, Field works, Camps, Guest lectures, National seminars, Internship and Certificate programs to equip students.
The decennial growth of us with steady learning improves knowledge and provides growth. The social work Department is a woven blanket, always volunteers to comfort the Marginalized, grass root workers, the have-nots, and make the unworthy to be more deserved. The growing course of us, helping students with wholesome competency to face the challenges to be a competent social worker.

Exploring the Adoption of Agricultural Innovations in Rice Farming Sanghamitra Rajnandini Saikia In International Journal of Extension Education, Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu , Apr 2025, Volume: 20,(2), Page: 110-120.
Abstract [+]
This study explores the adoption of agricultural innovations in rice farming in Dhemaji district, Assam, examining the influence of socio-economic factors and adopter categories on innovation uptake. The findings show that the majority of farmers (54%) are aged between 36–50 years, with a male-dominated farming community (66.5%). Educationally, 39 per cent of farmers have completed higher secondary education and most live in joint family structures (55.5%). Income-wise, 34 per cent fall into the middle-income group, earning between ?2,00,001 and ?4,00,000 annually. Using Rogers' Diffusion of Innovation Model, the study reveals that 91.6 per cent of farmers are classified as Laggards, indicating a cautious approach to adopting new technologies, while Innovators (7.6%) prefer to wait for others to validate innovations. The adoption of specific innovations varies, with Integrated Weed Management (96.8%) and hybrid rice varieties (91.6%) being widely adopted, while innovations like the Super Bag for drying and storage (8.4%) had the lowest adoption rate. Adoption levels were mostly moderate (47.2%), with low adoption at 25.2 per cent and high adoption at 27.6 per cent. Chi-square analysis highlights significant associations between socio- economic factors such as age, gender, education and income with innovation adoption. Factors influencing adoption differed by adopter category, with financial capacity, extension services and social influence playing key roles. A majority (98%) of farmers emphasized the importance of initiatives like education, improved extension services and the creation of FPOs to enhance innovation adoption. In contrast, 78 per cent highlighted the need for a mindset change to overcome resistance to new practices, recognizing it as a gradual process requiring sustained efforts. The study emphasizes the need for tailored interventions from policymakers and extension agencies to foster innovation adoption, particularly by addressing specific needs across different adopter groups. modernize agricultural practices, improve efficiency and increase yields to meet the growing global food demand. This study analysed the adoption trends of innovations in paddy cultivation. Key innovations were identified including the adoption of advanced agricultural machinery starting from seed preparation to harvesting and storage, improved irrigation systems and utilization of hybrid rice varieties by interviewing the paddy farmers of Assam, India. Percentage analysis and paired t-test were used to assess the impact of innovations on rice crop productivity. The results of the study indicate a positive and progressive trend in the adoption of innovations in paddy cultivation. The widespreadacceptance of improved machineries and a diverse array of hybrid rice varieties showcases a collective effort among farmers to enhance productivity, optimize resource utilization, and embrace sustainable agricultural practices. To maximize the benefits of these innovations, farmers must receive adequate training. Reference1 |

This study aims to assess the socioeconomic characteristics of women farmers in Dhemaji District, Assam, their involvement in marketing rice produce, the specific decisions they make in rice farming and the constraints they have faced. Data were collected from 120 women farmers using stratified sampling method, focusing on their demographic profile and role in marketing. Results show that the majority of women are middle-aged, married and have studied till high school, with extensive farming experience. The study found significant associations between socioeconomic characteristics (age, education, income) and women's involvement in marketing, with education playing the strongest role. Women are highly involved in activities like product diversification, market research and quality control. However, only 25% are fully empowered in decision-making, while 40.8% have moderate influence. Socioeconomic factors like age and income have significant impacts on decision-making levels. Additionally, women face constraints such as limited access to modern farming techniques, financial credit and post-harvest technologies, as well as gender-based barriers. The study highlights the need for targeted interventions to enhance women's decision-making power and access to resources, especially through training and better financial support, to improve their participation in rice farming and marketing. |

This study investigates the impact of floods on rice farming in the Bordoloni Development Block of Dhemaji District, Assam. Using random sampling, 200 tribal farmers from Uriamguri and Kathal Guri Village within the Ming Mang Gram Panchayat were selected, with 100 farmers from each village. The primary goal is to understand farmers' socio-economic status and assess flood-induced rice crop damage in terms of yield reduction and economic consequences. Additionally, the research aims to identify the strategies adopted by farmers to enhance resilience against flood impacts. Data collection involved face-to-face interviews using structured interview schedules to gain insights into the challenges faced by tribal farmers and their coping mechanisms against flood-related adversities. The findings reveal floods as a significant challenge for rice farmers, particularly during the long rainy season, with the river Jiyadhal and its tributaries causing widespread inundation, especially between May and August. Floods have led to substantial crop losses for the majority of the farmers, with some farmers reporting severe damage. Additionally, post-flood crop diseases have further deteriorated rice quality. Farmers have employed various strategies such as adjusting planting schedules, utilizing flood-tolerant hybrid rice varieties, and diversifying crops to withstand floods. These adaptive measures hold promise in enhancing farmers' resilience against floods and other adverse weather events in the future.
